Our Story

Na’to’sapi Chief Old Sun School was established in 1976. It was originally located next door to Old Sun College. In September 1988 the current school was officially opened. Chief Old Sun School has expanded since 1988, with the current population of 358 students and 40 full-time staff. The school had an extension and modernization to accommodate all of the students and our programs, which was officially opened in October 2005. Thanks to the Siksika Nation Chief & Council, and the Siksika Nation Board of Education.

Currently, we have two classes for every Grade level from Nursery to Grade 6 and three Kindergarten classes. We have a Division I & II Treasured Children Program along with speech and occupational therapy programs. Chief Old Sun School strives to preserve our Siksika language and culture thus we offer language and culture classes. As well as computer, music and physical education classes.

We have implemented a Leadership Program with the Physical Education teacher. This program focuses on enhancing Leadership skills through role-playing, culture activities, self-esteem building and teamwork activities. In addition, they learn social skills which will help them cope with everyday stresses and challenges.

Na’to’sapi Chief Old Sun School strives to maintain excellence in programming, thereby giving our students the opportunity to develop academically, physically, spiritually, culturally, and emotionally.
